When it comes to taking care of my lips, I often go all out. After all, I’m pretty prone to windburns and chapped lips every time we travel to cold areas. I’m the type who exfoliates lips twice a week and will never be caught dead without lip balm in her purse. Gotta take care of the puckers lest I won’t have any use for my ever-growing lipstick collection. 😉

I love lip balms as much as I love lipsticks. In fact, I never apply lipstick on my lips without applying lip balm first – especially with matte formula lip colours. Choosing the right lip balm is definitely a must for me and a brand (originally from Japan) that was recently launched here in KL called Chu Lip is seriously making its way to my list of favourites.

Beauty + Review: First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream

First Aid Beauty, Ultra Repair Cream, Moisturiser, Sephora, Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, Beauty Another quick review! 🙂 By now you probably know how much moisturiser means to my daily life. If you didn’t know it yet prior to reading that sentence – well, now you do. I confess my love for good moisturisers time and time again. I never get tired of trying out new stuff, raving about or hating on it afterwards then going through the cycle again. That’s just how it is. 😀 So for this entry, I’m going to rave about First Aid Beauty’s Ultra Repair Cream. After going through my Ziaja Natural Argan Oil Protective Face Cream, I knew that my next moisturiser would have really big shoes to fill. That’s how much I loved that stuff. (It’s not available in KL so there’s no chance of repurchasing it ASAP) First Aid Beauty, Ultra Repair Cream, Moisturiser, Sephora, Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, Beauty I did my research on which brands of moisturisers other girls are going gaga for and I decided to try out First Aid Beauty after seeing so many good reviews about it online. So far, it’s been one of my best purchases. Continue reading

Beauty + Review: Ziaja Natural Argan Oil Protective Face Cream

Ziaja, Moisturiser, Argan Oil, Facial Cream, Protective, Skin Care

My new favourite moisturiser – which I’m about to finish off! 🙂

While I am head over heels in love with makeup, I’ve got to admit that I’m more obsessed over skincare. I can wax poetic all day about how having clear, healthy skin is the key ingredient to looking good. No matter how much makeup you put on, at the end of the day, if your skin isn’t properly taken care of, it will show. Unless you use some magic called Photoshop or slap a filter on a selfie.

Great skin has a lot to do with genetics and I thank all the saints for letting me come from bloodlines that don’t have any skin problems. I’m pretty sure both my mom and my dad, as well as my grandparents on both sides, never had a tough acne problem. Come to think of it, the best example would have to be my grandma (dad’s side) who just turned 95.

My grandma when she was younger. I think this was in the early 40s. Isn’t she a beauty? 😉

And this is her just a couple of weeks ago during her 95th birthday. Look at her skin! It’s too beautiful for a 95 year old! And I’m not just saying this cos she’s my grandma who swears by how much I resembled her when she was young. 😉

But my grandma, who already had great skin to begin with, didn’t keep her skin healthy just by letting it be. She nurtured it and kept it hydrated. According to my dad, she has always (and still is) been religious in applying her creams and moisturisers. I started taking care of my skin quite seriously at age 23 and now that I’m 25, I can honestly say that I’m gonna be making my grandma proud. 😉 Moisturiser has also become my religion and I intend to stay devoted till I die.

Beauty + Review: GoodSkin Labs Circleplex-2 Dark Circle Specialists for Eyes

GoodSkin Labs’ Circleplex-2 Dark Circle Specialists for Eyes.

I don’t remember how many times I’ve said “The bags under my eyes are Givenchy (or insert other designer brand her)” in my lifetime, followed by either a sly smile or sarcastic laugh. Maybe around a thousand?

The dark circles under my eyes and the puffiness that comes with them when I’m tired or lacking in sleep has been the bane of my existence. Pair that with my ultra-white skin (MAC NC15/NC20 – pale!) that only enhances the dark colour… Well, you get the sleepy/tired-looking picture.

While I don’t get much skin problems like blemishes or too much oil, my under eye circles have been enough of an annoyance. Though I can hide them with concealer everyday, I’ve often toyed with the idea of just making them go away and skipping a step in my morning makeup routine. So it’s one of my many missions in life to get rid of them – permanently. I’ve tried a good number of eye creams due to various circumstances.

Friends and brands (back when I was working in the media) giving skincare stuff to try, samples being included in makeup and skin care products I buy, and sometimes just out of curiosity and giving in to cute packaging or what new ingredient is written on the box. Lately, I was given GoodSkin Labs‘ Circleplex-2 Dark Circle Specialists for Eyes to try out and since I was already about to finish my sample-sized Benefit It’s Potent Eye Cream which was also very helpful in reducing the dark circles, I was fairly open to trying out a new product before deciding on which one to purchase next.

Beauty: Current bath time loves + Quick updates

Well, hello there everyone. First, just a short thank you for keeping up with me and reading this blog. Seriously. I didn’t really expect much of a turn out but apparently, people have been reading some of my posts and the feedback I’m getting is just heartwarming. Thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. 🙂

Also, I just wanted to update you that I tried a new workout yesterday called Electric Muscle Stimulation (EMS) at Impulse Studio in Bangsar. It’s one of the most intense workouts I’ve tried so far – it lasts for only 20 minutes and is already equal to 4 hours at a normal gym! So yeah, I’m pretty much sore today. But I’m loving the feeling and I can’t wait to go back! Too bad we’ll be out of town for two weeks (will tell you guys about this later on) so I’ll be missing some precious fitness time. But come early October, I’m gonna be back there again. Do check out their site to learn more about EMS and if you want to try it out for free, just mention my blog at the counter and they will give you a free trial. 😉

I’ll write more about the experience soon so watch out for that.

Anyhoo, off to today’s beauty post: I obsess over beauty and skin care as much as my husband obsesses over tech stuff and appliances. The way he reads reviews and researches about his future buys is practically the same method I apply for my beauty-related purchases. We’re not the type to splurge on stuff we really don’t think is worth it after all. To me, beauty is not just about putting on the right makeup or having a gorgeous haircut. You always have to start with clean skin and hair so everything starts from the bath – everyday.

While I don’t have the luxury of using the bath tub every single day, I make sure I have ample time to enjoy my showers. Getting to scrub every nook and cranny of my skin is actually invigorating, relaxing, and very satisfying – or am I just weird. I dunno. Tell me you’re with me on this. While I often get compliments for having clear skin and bouncy hair, I know for a fact that they won’t last unless I take good care of them. And before you use any other product on your skin and hair, it’s best to make sure that you’re really clean. I can’t imagine how a moisturiser or a hair serum (no matter how good they are) to work properly when there’s dust and dirt on you.

They just won’t be able to penetrate. So for this one, I just wanted to share my current favourite bath time buddies which I get from Sephora here in Malaysia. I’m a huge Sephora fan and I would always stop by at at least one store every time I visited family in Europe just to stock up on essentials that I don’t get in Manila. I love how almost everything I need can be bought under one roof – especially my bath time essentials like this little baby:

Sephora Fizzing Bath Cube – Peony (RM5, Php68.83, US1.55, EUR1.20)

Beauty: Ziaja Phytoaktiv Cleansing Milk Review

Totally loving Ziaja’s Phytoaktiv Cleansing Milk!

I’m crazy about beauty, skin care products, and makeup. I don’t know if that’s already obvious but just in case people haven’t figured that out yet, I just wanna put it out there. 😉

I have this habit of changing my cleanser, moisturiser, and toner every couple of months. I was told by a dermatologist once that it is important to keep your skin on your toes and keep it from eventually becoming immune to products. She told me that using the exact same product over and over again reduces its effectivity on your skin. I’ve been following that advice for years and I am happy to report that my naturally dry skin is still very much clear and has never had a massive breakout – ever. (Just in case you are wondering, I apply the same principle to my hair. I change our shampoo and conditioner every couple of months as well.)

For my birthday last June, my friend Michaela got me Ziaja skincare products – the Phytoaktiv Cleansing Milk and their Argan Oil Moisturiser (I’ve been going through an Argan Oil addiction phase). I haven’t gotten around to using the moisturiser as I have yet to finish my current product. So for now, I’ll be reviewing the cleanser.

Ziaja is a Polish brand known for producing “pharmaceuticals and high-quality cosmetics based on natural ingredients for face, body and hair care”.

This 200ml bottle can last you for over 2 months (I still haven’t finished my bottle after opening it on June 25)
