Makeup is all about fun and self-expression in my book so I’m totally on board with L’Oréal Paris’ new name and brand direction.
L’Oréal is a trusted brand that’s been around for ages (since 1909!). I remember growing up with it and getting my first ever foundation from their brand years ago. So the rebranding actually came as a surprise – a good one. 😉
They’re now known as L’Oréal Paris Makeup Designer. So what’s behind the longer name?
Don’t just wear makeup, design your look!
The brand is actually encouraging everyone who uses their products to exercise their freedom and self-expression using makeup. They want you to actually design your whole look. It’s 2016, after all.
In line with this, L’Oréal also named the 3 aspects where the brand wishes to focus on:
L’Architecture Du Teint (Face Architect)
People who wear makeup treat their skin as a blank canvas that can be accentuated with subtle hits of colour. L’Oréal believes that flawless skin should appear bare yet glow from with in. Yay for the natural look and goodbye to cake-y foundations! 😉
L’Art du Regard (Eye Artistry)
L’Oréal is from France so it’s only natural that they push for the Parisian Chic look. The French are known for sophistication which is, again, something I’m totally on board with. They’re looking into transforming conventional eye looks into something that is sophisticated yet with an air of mystique.
La Obsession de la Couleur (Colour Obsession)
Ah, of course. What’s makeup without colour? They promise to offer an array of shades and textures that will give you (close to) infinite possibilities.
Now the fun part!
Recently went to the launch of L'oréal Paris Makeup Designer's new range called Makeup Genius. 💖 In love with the new range and L'oréal's rebranding which encourages women to not just wear makeup but to design our whole look. 💖💖 #lorealparismy #lorealmakeup #lorealmakeupmy #makeupdesigner #makeupgenius #beauty #makeup #twitter
False Lash Superstar Mascara (RM58.90)
L’Oréal is the pioneer when it comes to double ended mascara. Naturally, they’re back with a new release for it that they say will give you thick, curled up lashes that will go on for days.
First Impression: I tried this today and loved it. It lengthened my lashes really well. With just one coat of the primer and the mascara, it also made my lashes thick and it stayed that way all day.
Superstar Liner Impact Felt Liner (RM35.90)
While I’m not one for drama in real life, I do love some on my eyes. This eyeliner has a thick, felt nib. Reminds me of a calligraphy pen that can take your winged liner from a daytime kitty to super sexy feline with just a few strokes.
True Match Genius 4-in-1 Compact Foundation (RM59.90)
This baby is your 4-in-1. It’s a primer, foundation, concealer, and powder in just one compact. Great for girls that are on the go. This is a cream to powder formula that my friend Samia and I fell in love with at the launch!
First Impression: I love wearing this foundation! It’s got decent coverage and the shade R2 is perfect for my skin tone. Although to be honest, you will still need a bit of concealer for your dark circles or zits (if you have any). It’s lightweight and it goes from cream to powder quite quickly! It worked really well with the Cushion Blush!
Lucent Magique Cushion Blush (RM49.90)
When I posted a photo of the products I got on Instagram and on my personal Facebook account, this is the item that got the most attention from my friends. Cushion foundations are pretty common nowadays. Especially here in Asia! But a cushion blush? Now that’s new! (Again, this is a blush. Not to be confused with the cushion highlighter released by Laneige last year)
First Impression: I used the lightest shade on me today and I loved how natural it looked on me. It’s so easy to apply and has a cooling effect on my skin. Definitely my favourite out of the bunch along with the foundation.
CC Balm Genius (RM23.90)
A ultra-hydrating balm that leaves your lips soft for up to 12 hours!
Glam Shine Balm (RM23.90)
If you’re a fan of glossy lips but hate the hassle of applying lipgloss using a wand, you might love this. The Glam Shine Balm comes in twist-up crayon form. Another product for a girl on the go. 😉
First Impression: Really pigmented for a gloss. Application was effortless and hydrates the lips really well.
Color Riche La Palette Nude (RM89.90)
Nude shadows are so in. With practically every brand in the market coming up with its own nude shadow palette, it’s expected for L’Oréal to have its own as well. Theirs come in two sets – one with your plain, go-to nudes, and one with rosier hues.
Beauty goes digital
And the last thing I want to tell you guys about is the launch of the Makeup Genius App here in Malaysia. Ever found yourself taking too long to decide whether to go for dramatic eyes or a simple, nude shadow combo? Don’t get me started on choosing a lipstick after doing my whole face.
L’Oréal also launched their Makeup Genius app which lets you try on looks via your phone’s front facing camera. It’s a pretty advanced app compared to its competitors. It uses technology similar to Snapchat’s face filters to detect your face!
While the makeup that the app puts on you makes you look digitally enhanced, I have to say the quality is better compared to other apps I’ve seen on my friends’ phones. (To be honest, I’m not a fan of such apps as I often look weird with digital makeup on)
Another thing though is that some of L’Oréal’s products aren’t in the app yet so the options are not as many as I imagined but I’m sure they’ll be updating the app pretty soon. An option for you to buy L’Oreal cosmetics you’ve ‘tried on’ through the app is also coming.
That’s all for now, my loves.
